This is really getting on my tits...

I've decided to give Bootcamp a go on my Macbook as I am doing alot of video editing, and I cannot find a trial of Final Cut and therefore will not buy it, and iMovie is pretty shite IMO. I use Adobe Premiere on my PC, so I've decided to stick Windows on my Mac and use it from there, amongst other uses. After trying it about 7 times, it's finally on. Now i'm trying to get the drivers onto it from the OS X disc...

First attempt, it wanted me to update Windows Installer. So I had to download it from my PC and put it on Bootcamp. Then it moans saying it can only install the drivers on XP SP2 or Windows Vista. I hate Vista and the only XPs I have are with SP1. I have Media Centre SP2 but this is pre-installed. With the lack of internet on my Bootcamped Windows, I had to search for a SP2 download on my PC and transfer it onto my Mac.

I tried to install it, but is now moaning that it requires "4 megabytes of space" for some "Uninstall$" file or something along the lines of that. I hav over 7gb of space on this partition and for some reason, it can't find 4mb of space... I thought Bootcamp was supposed to be helpful, not so bloody awkward...

it would probably be easiest to slipstream SP2 onto a CD and install from that.

Well it turns out that XP HAS to have SP2 already on the disc which I don't have. So I'm going to have to upgrade Vista onto the XP partition. However, the partition is about 10gb big and Vistra requires about 20gb.

I've made about 66gb free, so I've created a 32gb partition. All three goes, I got a message saying "Please restart your computer" which I'm assuming is the Mac's equivalent to the BSod. Not only do I have no partition, but it's nicked by 32gb, so that's gone missing.

Can somebody please help, this is driving me crazy...

Can you not download SP2 on another computer (or your Mac partition) and launch the installer from a pen-drive or something? This link is a direct link to SP2.

I thought you had to have a Windows XP SP2 disc to get it to even work in the first place. I didn't think that you could upgrade to SP2, it had to be SP2 from the word go.

I'd also advise you take the free download of iMovie 06, which is a nice app, presuming your moanings about it were in reference to 08, which admittedly is a steaming pile of crap. They stripped it of all its features for the sake of a new interface which isn't that much nicer than the old one. The link is here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html

If iMovie 06 does what you want, you could jack the whole Bootcamp thing in.

Is it possible to install the xp sp2 disc from my previous laptop ( R.I.P) onto my Vista laptop? Will it be too complicated for me to do myself. I just can't get on with Vista. I'm saving my pennies to buy a mac but in the meantime i'd like to go back to XP.
