Just got this in my inbox. My spamfilter is normally marvelous so gave it a bit of attention.

two rather simple ways to find out
1 - check in the headers to see if the return path of the email matches the domain in the email address
2 - is your email address something that mt sharma could use. If it's rod.singh @hotmail.com then its probably not a simple mistake.

Headers match. Email address fairly abstract to avoid just this. Delete and be done with it I think.
A new scam doing the rounds is people being "pranked" by a number not recognised. Curiosity encourages some people to call the number back, which just so happens to be premium rate, and not necessarally 0906.

I got one of these, only it was from a company called Verizon? never heard of them saying my " $200 usb modem" is on the way and It was in the name of "Tom Roderick" I was most worried.

After a quick run through Google, both companies appear to be American and in the telecommunications business. They'd do anything to get customers, I suppose.

Due to problems with my Sister's broadband I've been checking her Email account for her on a daily basis. She gets alot of junk (Viagra sales pitches etc - which I wind up my Brother-in-law about
), but most notably requests for data from fraudulent "bank" sites.
She had one each from HBOS, HSBC and NatWest in one day last week. Before Christmas she was so concerned that she might have filled one of these in by accident that she changed all the details on their accounts.
I get the odd one of these bogus requests, but I wonder how many people actually respond with their correct details (I fill them in with random numbers, I hope they waste time trying them).
Do many other Metropollers get these requests, and what do you do with them? Does anyone know whether the banks targeted by these Emails actually manage to prosecute people?
