Anyone got any?

I've been considering getting something small, discreet, and meaningful for a while. But it requires some thinking.

If you were to get one, what would you get?

How strange. I was gonna start a Tats thread last night.
I have one which i got when i was 18 or 19 to cover a homemade one i had done hen i was 13. I have been looking at celeb mags recently and this trend of young women having tats on their wrists forearms and necks is really ugly no matter how tasteful the tat.
I like my tatoo and don't regret it at all. My fella has loads of them and all of them tell a story or has a special memory to it. He has one with a very very old exes name intertwined within it, he was 16 when he got it done and still has it now. It doesn't upset me and i would never ask him to get it covered as she obviously meant a great deal to him at the time. That is the only exes name he has on his body. We have agreed to oneday soon getting matching tats.

My main advice before getting a tatoo is think very carefully about the artwork and to ask friends with good tatts where they got theirs done. You must also have a consultation and feel comfortable with the tatooist even If it means travelling a fair distance and paying a bit more for your body art.

I'd only get one featuring Nick.

I've always wondered if that really is a Wentworth Miller tattoo, or fake just for Prison Break. I'm sure a few clicks on Google would give me the answer, but that would require effort.

I have quite a few friends with tattoos, and most are subtle and tasteful. However, I don't ever see myself getting one for the following reasons:
I have a very low pain threshold, so would end up with half a design and a morbid fear of tattoo parlours for the rest of my life.
I'm sure it wouldn't look very nice on my wrinkly body when I am 80 years old lying on the beach (assuming I make it to 80 - and the beach!)

If I did get one, it would say Sput's real name, of course!

I think you should namedrop less*. It would make you slightly less annoying.

I'm not opposed to tattoos, however I couldn't see myself getting one done because it's relatively permanent, and when it comes to these sorts of things, my tastes can change. What seemed like a great idea at the time, after two weeks is boring, and then I'm stuck with it. Body piercing appeals to me more because of this - when you've had enough, you can just take it out. Not that I've had anything done apart from my ear.

If I'm honest, I'm also kind of pedantic. I can just imagine that if I ever got a tattoo done, and there was something ever-so-slightly wrong with it, it would absolutely annoy me for the rest of my life. I'd either have to go back and get changes made to it (which is a slippery slope - because I could still, I'm sure, pick problems with it), or I'd be so embarrassed that I'd never want anyone to see it.

I don't like tattoos.

When I was younger (and very overweight), I didn't have the confidence to say, "look at my body". It takes a certain confidence (or should that be - lack of anxiety) to adorn yourself with ink, as you'll undoubtedly have de-robe to reveal it to curious friends and well-wishers from time to time.

At that early age I read, "lack of anxiety" as, "narcissism". Consequently it put me off some people. Certainly I had a skewed perspective - but everyone does in some way or other.

That's the problem with art, whether its on a wall or on your arm. People bring to it, and impose on it, their own shit. And you're kind of stuck with it.

These days, I have much more confidence and so don't see things quite the same way. That said, I have a new-found appreciation for good skin (knowing how much it costs per square foot), so I don't think people should permanently deface it full stop.

If you think you want a tattoo, why not get a henna one done. It will wear off over time but will give you a few months to mull over a more permanent installation.

I am quite partial to the ring-of-thorns/rope one round a slightly muscular arm. Despite everything I said above I find that particular motif incredibly sexy.

I don't like tattoos.

My ex-girlfriend, Sarah, had this 'swoosh' thing done on her side - about 8" in length. It didn't look very nice.

The guys I usually see with tattoos tend to be either moshers or chavs. No middle ground.

And what about in years to come. There will be nursing homes up and down the country of little old ladies covered in tattoos they had done 50 years previously! Madness.
