FTP Software

For the last eight years or so I've used Terrapin FTP as my FTP client. I love the fact you can drop directories onto server directories and tell it to only update files with a newer modified date. I like the resuming interrupted downloads and I generally like the no nonsense feel of the program.
However the lack of ability to set chmod directories is pissing me off greatly, meaning I'm having to use net2ftp.com to set things like the avatar directory as writeable.
I can't say I'm a fan of the old windows FTP client and haven't sued filezilla in many years. I can't really be fussed trying 50 different clients to see which one is the best so I'm wondering what everyone else uses?

Oddly enough, I use Net2FTP as my primary client (when I'm not using the built in Windows one). This is because it has a very useful feature called ZIP Upload, so you can create an archive containing 200 files that need to be uploaded, and offload the hassle of uploading lots of small files to their server.
I don't see anything wrong with Windows' client, though, it seems to integrate well with the rest of Windows which I like.
EDIT: I also use Second Copy 7 to back up files to and from my FTP server on a regular basis. But I don't think that could be called using an FTP Client.

For uploading, I find fireftp the most convenient - loads up inside firefox as a new tab. It hasn't got the greatest number of features, but does have CHMOD and is easy to find your way around if you, like me, got used to FTP in wsftp.
For editing files directly, there is a little gem of a programme - PSPad, text editor with built in ftp functions. I'd be lost without it!

I used FireFTP when I used Firefox, and disliked it a lot, due to its lack of any integration with the Windows shell. It felt like a bad copy of FileZilla. And I always resented the fact that it didn't pick up FTP:// links automatically. But I just hate navigating local folder trees

It probably comes down to what you're used to. As I said, my first introduction to FTP was wsftp and my introduction to file management was windows 3.0, so directory listings seem pretty natural. For a quick solution that's always at hand, I find it more than convenient!
I concede that direct access through ftp:// addresses would be a good addition.
