Hi All
I have a new lap top and I have bought a wireless router.
However when I connect it all up my lap top will not pick up the router.
Can any one explain why?
Thank you
My new wireless router

Usually because wireless is off on the laptop or wireless is not enabled on the router by default.Joe Public wrote:Hi All

Alternatively you're not giving the router enough time to fire up the Wireless before you tell the laptop to look for wireless networks.
I changed from normal broadband modem to NETGEAR WiFi a couple of years ago. It worked fine until I got a new PC and we tried wiring it up to the existing home network.
There were problems with NETGEAR and the PC I'd bought. A visit from the engineer gave nothing, it was a later Housemate ("stinkyPete") who solved the problem. He wrote a bit of code to disable the NETGEAR secrurity program at start-up.
It's been fine since, and accepts all updates from Windows, so he didn't fiddle with that.

Hi
Thank you for the above.
I have connected my cable modem to the router by ethernet and I have activated the wireless in my lap top but still no wireless internet.
I have a CD with the router but this only seems to set up the USB adapter - correct me if I am wrong but I dont need an adapter as the wireless is buiolt into the lap top already
Do I need to set up the USB adapter on my old PC (now in the kids bedroom) before I can connect my lap top?
Sorry if this all sound stupid - I have tried to look on the internet and sort it myself
TY

it does not see the router - when I connect the modem direct to the lap top all is well
