Table Top Washing Machines...

ATM, I'm looking at a few trendy little studio flats, hoping to be in by christmas. All the ones I'm looking at have four things in common:

1) There is no plumbing (or real space anyway) for a washing machine
2) There are no communal laundry facilities
3) They are not located anywhere near a launderette
4) They are otherwise perfect places that I'd love to live in

Not a problem, I thought. When I went to uni, every electrical shop under the sun had table top washing machines. These curious chappies are essentially a motorised plastic tub which you manually fill with water for the wash, and again for the rinse, and the water drains out of the bottom onto the draining board.

I reckoned that I'd just pick up one of these and in conjunction with a spin dryer and an over-bath airer, I'd have my own little laundry which can be stashed into a cupboard when not in use.

Problem - no one seems to make them any more. None of the major electrical retailers have them, and Internet searches throw up two main models, the Hinari WM005 and the Tefal ML5034, almost all the links for which are finished ebay auctions or online retailers that haven't had them for 2 or 3 years.

Scouring ebay finds a tiny number of them, which I'll have to pay an arm and a leg in postage to get. The local classifieds don't turn up anything.

Does anyone know if anyone still manufactures such things and where they might be bought?

Do you mean the cylindrical ones that are a couple of feet high?

Having given this some thought, I seem to remember that there are quite a few second-hand electrical shops around the Devonport area of Plymouth that may sell such items. They obviously don't seem to be manufactured very much these days so that might be one of your best options.

That'll be a spin dryer. Bizarrely, in an age when it appears that there aren't any production washing machines left without a spin function (with the table toppers being the last of the breed), these things are still made and available new.

Now that could be worth a try, as it seems impossible to get a new one. Cash Converters and Wants drew a blank, didn't think of venturing out.

Cool! Where can I buy it???!!!??? ;)

Is this any use!

Very similar by the looks to the old tefal one, which my mum used to have when I was young!

That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for. It seems the terminology has changed, I don't want a table top washing machine, I want a portable washing machine!

Edit - looking further into it, I've identified this bad boy as a Sunncamp CG1000, unlike the older ones I was looking at this one also has a spin function. The same company also make a portable tumble dryer (albeit twice as expensive). So, it seems there'll be no problem having my portable laundry facilities with my new place.

Wait 'til your panties get snaggled up around the agitator.

That's heavy shit.
