Old Desktop HD to Laptop

Hello boys and girls.

I have a problem. Some of you might remember me mentioning that my old desktop computer bit the dust. Basically, it wouldn't load a certain file during start up and wouldn't let me proceed.

However, I've struck upon the idea of connecting the main Hard Drive of my old desktop PC to my laptop. Is there a way to do it so I can recover some very important files?

I can see that I'm going to need some big-ass connectors and shit, but where would I get them? Basically, I want to be able to run the old HD as a slave drive from the laptop either through USB or PCI. I really don't want to go opening up my laptop by myself otherwise I will void the warranty (which I've already used twice due to me spilling things over it and dropping it).

Here is a helpful diagram of my problem:

get yourself a cheap usb2 drive caddy off ebay, whack the disk in and you should have a fully functioning portable drive. When you've got your files, you can then use it as a portable drive for video/audio without having to mess around with burning things to cd/dvd.

On a more important issue though, just how long did you spend creating that graphic?
About 3 minutes.

I do. Hence why I have the reliability and compatibility of XP and the sleek Vista look with Window Blinds. ;)

It's weird, all the Vista skins I tried for my XP machine crashed it very badly so I gave up. I wouldn't mind turning my laptop into XP though so I'll give it a try :)

One OS skin I used a while ago, but uninstalled because the calculator stopped working due to certain DLL files being replaced, was Flyakite OS.

It turns your XP machine into a Mac. At least aesthetically. Even the log-in screen was 'Macified'.

However, I don't like Apple's interface very much. Too much grey and general blocky chunkiness.

As for getting a HD caddy, I've placed an order for one. Then I'll have back all my precious files since October 1999. Yay!

Can things like this work on a regular PC too? There's data on my external drive which has gone missing but it's still on my old drive.
