Gunchester

Has anyone living in manchester EVER heard it called this except in the media, which is populated by those filthy London types? I've been in Manchester for 4 years and not once have I heard it called Gunchester. I get the distinct impression the media have actually coined it themselves and simultaneously not realised that (i) london is far worse for shootings and (ii) "Gundon" is a MUCH better pun.

Can't as I've ver heard the term. All the shootings generally happen in and around Moss Side. In Sale we usually get a screwdriver in the head.

I've not been threatened yet in Sale unless Sale Moor counts as Sale. No screwdrivers, no knives, no plastic bottles - nothing. Sale Moor, however, is a different matter.

I can only imagine the terror one would feel when faced with an attacker wielding an empty plastic fanta bottle. I would willingly hand over my mobile, wallet and watch in such circumstances :o

I'm surprised that even the thought of it hasn't put you into therapy Adders! ;)

It's the same thing with "Shottingham"/"Assassination City" for Nottingham. :x

While not denying that there are some (long ongoing) issues with guns in a few parts of Manchester, I do think this is just media tactics to sensationalise and up sales.

Manchester is, in my opinion, not much different in safety levels than most British cities.

And no, Gunchester is not a local term. After all, the majority of people who live here do seem to be proud or at least reasonably happy to live in the city.

Just pop in thde Met Bar/Bar 2/whateverv they're calling it these days. I'm sure it won't take long. Doesn't matter what time of day, they're all usually drunk by 12 in there and spilling out onto the street.
