ms hellfire's post in another thread - about the possibility of me being 17 or 50 years old lead me to think ...

many of us have dropped into this place (and its predecessor) on and off for the past six years, picking up snippets of info about each other's real lives. but how much do we really know about each other. how different are we on here to our real personalities? this isnt an opportunity to post a list of likes, dislikes, date/place of birth about yourself, as there is already a thread for that. neither is it a place to reveal de-mask other members identities.

but i do think it would be interesting to hear what impression we have of each other, especially of those members who maintain an air of anonymity. how do we imagine other posters are in real life?

for example i bet you anything cwathen wears glasses.

And I feel so honoured to be the first person mentioned in this thread. I'd have placed solid bets on it being Lorna. You know something though, you are WRONG (kindof). When I was 18 I did have issues with my eyes and I did wear glasses until I was 22, then I briefly replaced them with contacts. But I've not needed any kind of eye assistance for well over a year now.

I also hate that I've had the same sig image for so long. I don't feel the need to be cwathen any more. I'd rather just be Chris.

Oh bet anyway, yeah you're wrong, I don't wear glasses now. What 'anything' were you willing to bet about being right ????????!!!?

Hymagumba:

I reckon Hyma is probably a really nice bloke in person. Someone who I would warm to very quickly - mainly because of his sharp and incisive wit. He strikes me as someone who would have a small circle of loyal and close friends, rather than a large group of people who he wouldn't know as well. I also think he might have a tendency to be someone who is fine with bursts of intense socialising, but would then need to be on his own for a day or so to reflect and just chill out in peace.

Sput:

Exquisitely clever. That's how I'd sum him up. He has razor sharp wit - which I love. I think he's probably a fairly shy person in real life, though. Very clever, aware and decisive - but I also think there is a degree of introversion in him, which I think he wishes he didn't have.

Nodnirg (aka Mark):

Mark and I are very similar in some respects. Although I'm far less monogamous than him, I think we share a very similar outlook on life. Although, I think Mark takes life slightly more seriously than me. I think he and I would get on very well if we were to meet up in person.

Nick Harvey:

Nick is quite difficult to suss. I just have a mental image of him living in a little house in a leafy corner of Devizes. He's probably well known and liked locally and has a wide circle of friends and other pals who he goes down the pub with.

I don't know much about Nick's past. He's quite secretive about what his job used to be. I know it's something to do with television presentation and possibly sound. I have a feeling his main job was the head of something or other. Television continuity / production maybe.

Anyway, I don't actually believe Nick to be a real life Victor Meldrew. I think he finds the funny side of most situations and any anger he expresses is usually accompanied with a wink and a subtle smile.

Cwathen:

Chris strikes me as a true introvert. Someone who is a deep thinker and someone who prefers his own company rather than constantly being included in large-scale social activities. I think his job, or ideal occupation, would be something in an office environment. IT or finance comes to mind. He is always concise and steadfast in his views. I also think Chris is single and is probably waiting for the right person to come along. I also get the impression he dislikes change. I think routine and familiarity are very important to him.

I'll add more people to this thread later - so don't start moaning if I haven't mentioned you.

with the benefit of hindsight the "anything" was a malteser.

Nick Harvey reminds me of my grandad. Very friendly chap, moans about everything, likes a drink.

Miss Hellfire is my idea of a great night out, she's absolutely barmy, and also likes a drink.

From that i've gathered in the short time i've been here..

Gavin and Stuart are really nice people who i now speak to on MSN regular well when i'm not busy. Hyma can come across very biting and bitchy on here, but i think deep down has issues deep down. cdd reminds me of one of those high educated sorts who use to take cheap shots at me in school. Nick Harvey is too interlectual for me but is probably like the old man who lives at the end of my street. Miss Hellfire is probably the type of woman id like to go and party with.

Others who have responded to me seem ok.

One thing ive noticed, no one ever seems discuss their lives on here. Is the site for getting away from the going ons of daily life?

If I was one of those people who regularly changed my signature, I think I'd use that quote in it for a while.

I think I'll take the liberty of using your own quote, Nick...

I believe you have dark hair but aren't especially tall, and you probably buy clothes from Gap.

I don't want to discuss the minute of my life. It's not that I use Metropol to "get away from it all", just that I don't think my life is anybody else's business. And I seriously doubt that anybody cares what I do from day to day.

Anyway, back on topic. I don't know if I can put into words how I perceive others here. Some people I can imagine what they'd perhaps be like 'in real life', maybe even what they'd sound like, but I don't think I could translate those thoughts very well. So I shall keep my own council.

Next!
