I use a program called Herbert for my Philips MP3 player though I don't know if it will work with other makes. It's nice and simple to use. WMP doesn't support my player and the software that Philips supplied with it was the shoddiest lump of software shite I have ever seen. It's a pity cos the player itself is really quite good.

Winamp is my choice of Windows media software. It's great.

No, Winamp USED to be great until it became aggressive and tried to take over file formats you didn't want it to. I now refuse to install it.

It has to be able to synch with WMP Mobile on my phone - WMP 10's method of creating and synching is a pain in athe arse.

It's never really been that agressive when it comes to snatching file associations. It asks on install just as pretty much any media player does, and by default will maintain those ones unless you disable that option. But, in my experience it plays completely fair - I have it playing all my music formats which it keeps, and it respects my keeping it away from video because it's really quite rubbish at that still :P
