I'm having a terrible tremble of faith hre - because I'm running out of reasons to continue using Firefox and to change to Internet Explorer 7 with IE7Pro. I'm sick and tired of Firefox's inability to zoom in pages and print correctly and read RSS properly. Plus Firefox looks absolutely HIDEOUS in Vista, whereas IE7 looks beautiful.

However, I know I should use Firefox, so I'd quite like the Mozilla folk here to try to convince me to continue using it instead of IE7. I promise I'll be easily persuaded.

Internet Explorer 7 won't install on *liberated* copies of software, and in my experience even the legal version packs up and crashes more than super-stable firefox.

So some have no choice.

Firstly, simply much higher level of security. I've used it about 4 years now and would never go back to IE - I only do so in the case of pages that don't render properly using the Embedded IE plugin.

Equally, I'm still on XP - and intend to stay so for a while, trust me! - so am not sure what Firefox looks like in Vista, but skinning would fix the cosmetic elements, surely?

EDIT: Actually, why the hell are you on Vista to begin with?!

IE7 uses lovely glass elements etc., whereas Firefox has some horrid blue/cyan/coloured menu that has a static background colour. I am not sure skinning could enable Fx to use the glass interface etc.

As for 'security' - I never buy that argument, MS's track record on security over recent years is much better and on Vista IE operates in 'Protected Mode'.

Maybe I'll wait until Firefox 3 comes out and then decide whether I shall be a Browser Tart or not.

There are of couse a great many skins/theme/icon packs for FF, why not just get/change these every now and then to stop it from getting dull?

Firefox 3 has different graphics innards which should supposedly help the issue of printing which is a place where IE7 excels.

I'd love to see firefox be able to use glass like IE does, it looks absolutely stunning, whether it would be able to what with it generating its own UI is another matter.

What is this anti-Vista hierarcy all about anyway? Have you used Vista, sir? For its faults and teething problems, most of which are rapidly disappearing, Vista is a beautiful piece of software both visually and physically. I personally love it.

I don't get it either - Search everywhere in the OS and the beauuuutiful Glass theme (although why Vista Basic has to look so hideous is beyond me - why can't it just be identical to Aero but without the FX?) mean I never want to look back.

The 'Anti-Vista' contingent comes down really to two points - either "Oh, Vista is just a copy of OSX" (I don't much care), or "It's unreliable/unstable" which is simply not true. When you plug something into your computer it just works, computer drivers are slurped down from Windows Update, and I haven't encountered a single program that functions incorrectly in Vista yet.

My only criticism I suppose is that the interface doesn't feel very friendly - I sort of liked the XP cartoony style of icons, Vista goes for much more square edges in its icons. Vista has aimed for very neutral colours. It's pretty, though, and fairly unobtrusive.

I'm more practical in my opinions of operating systems.

I'd rather have a faster machine that looks like 1997, than a slow one that looks like 2007.

Protected Mode is easily bypassed. All you have to do is run a script that changes the icon, colour of the window border and the publisher status et vo
