Quite shocked to hear this, but I was greatly amused, even though I probably shouldn't be, by this sentence:
"Our political editor said the friends had told him that the deputy prime minister was sitting up,
and had managed to dictate a statement about his illness."
And yet he can never do it in the House of Commons!

It's not nice to mock when someone is ill. He suffers from diabetes which makes people quite suceptable to ailments in the first place. It was probably simply a summer cold which got out of hand.
I could a cold over the last Bank Holiday weekend and carried on working so it turned to Bronchitis, which the GP has dealt with using antibiotics. But for someone 30 years older than me, in bad physical condition and an existing ailment that could easily turn to Pnuemonia which can be life threatening if not treated properly.
I am no fan of "Two-Jags", but sympathy where it's due.

Oh yeah like he'd care if either one of us was ill. Sorry but my sympathies are saved for those close to me. I don't care much for anyone else. As long as those in my bubble are happy and healthy i don't much care for anyone else.

Seems to be a lot of nasty bugs around at the moment - probably something to do with the up-and-down weather. I don't get sick very often, but I picked up a slow moving cold a week or so ago just in time for me starting my new job last Friday. Typical! And just when I thought I could stop blowing my nose, I've developed a cough. I'm making a really good impression.
