Cockchafer

I currently have two Cockchafers flying round the room. I've got the window open a few inches to let some night air in, and the little buggers have flown in and are now noisily and clumsily trying to win the affections of my lightbulbs!

They look massive, but they're only about the size of a Wotsit.
If they weren't so noisy, I wouldn't mind sharing my evening with them. They're completely harmless and I think they're quite cuddly looking.
Is anyone else getting unexpected night time visitors through their windows at this time of the year? (Apart from Lorna, who we know often has night time visitors sneaking in through the window!)

Well whatever you do, Jamezy boy, I wouldn't sleep naked tonight - judging by the name of those things it sounds like they could do you some nasty damage!

They are pretty scary looking things. I remember being very frightened by one when I was little. Am I right in thinking you only get them in May (hence their other name of Maybugs - not to be confused with Mayflies), and they only live for a day?

What is this? Pick on me week?
I've come across one of those little buggers before. I had to get my housemate to catch it. We didn't know what the hell it was so we got the council in to inspect it. I was convinced it was some nasty bitey poisonous beetle that had made it's way to the uk via a Banana box or something. Bet your house is near a wood.

I wish I was a Cockchafer on Jamez's bedroom wall (out of swatting distance of course)!
I have had visitors through my windows in the middle of the night too. Not long ago my drunken mate decided to crawl through the living room window. I was most shocked as he fell through the curtains. I was busy listening to music on the 'puter at the time with headphones, so didn't hear the noise!

Normally black rainbeetles (?) where I live, I hate the sound they make when they hit lightbulbs.
Plus plenty of gnats & woodlice oddly enough (woodlice not the gnats)
