Afraid to ask

I'm afraid to ask over at TVF about dyslexia as it may come across the wrong way. I know everyone is aware that 62305 has the condition, but im just wondering how it actually works.

When i was at school, there was this boy who had it - but i never got the chance to ask him. I understand he had problems writing, but was great at thinking. How does it work when typing on a keyboard?

I mean you can see the letters, and they are spaced. Press one key to get a letter. How does dyslexia work. I'm going to sound ignorant for asking, but ive always been curious.

Dyslexia is a rather complicated beast of a specific learning difficulty!

It can be to do with writing, spelling, reading or even processing speeds in the brain. Some dyslexics cannot assoicate written letters into words others can do that perfectly well.

Processing speeds in the brain are a key factor. The speed that your brain can process information being read/written is important. If the conversion from thought to writing goes too slowly then your brain whizzes past where your hand is.

As for "being dyslexic" you'll probably find that almost everybody has some degree of a "dyslexic tendancy", the severity of the tendancy varies.

It's assessed through a Psycological Assessment by an Educational Psycologist who carries out a variety of different tests which vary from written to arranging different shaped blocks into patterns.

Mr H says he's dyslexic. In his case it means he's crap at spelling and has trouble reading certain words. He tends to spell as they sound. It used to take me ages to read the notes he leaves me. With me as guidance he has no hope of understanding why words are spelt a certain way. I can spell but i dont know why Psycho has a silent P. Mr. H would spell it Sico or syco.

He's still a very clever bloke. He's very practical, and has this habit of having to take anything mechanical apart to see how they work and then putting it back together. He can navigate the sea and pilot container ships. He knows his math and equations, Algebra and pythagaros * my brain has just switched off*

Can I just say that this thread with the title "Afraid to ask", has turned out to be a big let down.

I thought it was going to be something interesting with a title like that.

Did you think that "Dyslexia" as a topic title would be too much for us to cope with ?

It's true. E is actually equal to (C^2)M

Would anyone like to talk about Dyspraxia?

I was expecting to see comments along the lines of 'What do lesbians actually do?', or 'Why does it sting when I wee?'.

Well thank you for replying. Its sort of helped, what i was trying to get at is : is he really dyslexic or just taking the piss?

Also i just wanted to understand how it works? There are so many things im confused about. Example...

- We can fiddle the books at work, well the bosses, so when i put £20 into my bank. What exactly happens to that money. How can i go into the wall and get £20 out again - is it possible for the banks to fiddle with the books to make it look like i put less, or more in.
