New neighbour dilemma.

Lordy we have recently had the riff raff move in next door. They've only been moved in 2months. Already they've had several parties which has ended in a scrap. Last week and last night there was a huge bust up. On both these occassions they hadn't had a party.
3am this morning i was woken by banging, crashing and screaming. Then someone in the back garden shouting " come on then! out on the front lawn we'll have it out the front". He then went back in followed by more banging and screams.
I asked Mr. Hellfire if i should call the police as i think she's getting a hiding next door. He said "no don't get involved, and besides i think they've got guests". That's a fair point because their choice of friends don't seem to be able to handle their drink as it always seems to end in fisticuffs. So i eventually went back to sleep.
What would you do, would you call the police next time it happens? Or get your own back tonight? I'm thinking that a few pictures could do with going up on the adjoining wall, along with those shelves that have been waiting months should be assembled this evening about 3.30am. I won't forget to have the drill on hammer action.

Unless they're presenting an immediate danger, etc., then it might be more appropriate to write to the council about them and encourage your other neighbours to do the same. They need a certain threshold of complaints, after which they can act on them.

Aye, do the council thing. They normally send out a nice letter and a couple of forms for you to record any events over a certain period which you return to them.
In fact, when I reported our neighbours to Canterbury City Council, their letter thanks us for getting touch and explained that someone had visited the house to inform them a complaint had been made. Whether that's because the house was already known or Canterbury City Council are uber-efficient I'm not sure. They even sent a follow up letter a couple of months afterwards reminding us to return the form or said that the matter was would be considered solved.

Yeah, I'd go the council route, too - and don't be afraid or embarrassed to, either. You shouldn't have to put up with that sort of stuff (and unless you're lucky, they won't go away if you ignore them).
We had a bunch of scum living up the road from us a few years ago - beer & beer bellies and fights in the front garden and I'm not joking when I say that the police and/or paramedics were round at their place at least once a week. I'm not sure if my mum popped in a complaint or not, but I think everybody on that stretch of road did. Fortunately, the morons were evicted within a few months - but not before they had trashed the house.
Incidentally, does anybody know if there's something you can do about noisy visitors to your neighbours? Somebody near us has an almost daily visitor whose car has a subwoofer - which could be ignored if the fuckwit didn't sit outside the house for ages with it blaring away.

Thanks for that if it carries on i may well call the authorities. I haven't seen her next door since the barney the other night. I'm a little worried about her. I'll have to invite her round for tea and biccies and a chat.

My advice? No need for you to be watching Eastenders! I'd enjoy it! I love being nosy.

Well, i found out today it wasn't his missus he was beating up it was his sister. She's one big mamma his sister. Was chatting to his missus over the garden fence and she said they have drinking binges every now and then. Him and his sister get punchy after a few and they beat the life out of each other. That night he was going to walk into town to confront some geezer who was chatting up his wife. He accused his sister of instigating it.
Not so long ago he got punchy with some geezer who then threatened to set him on fire.
Could get quite interesting. I'm thinking next time it gets lairy Mr. Hellfire and i may join in and beat the crap out the lot of them instead of calling the authorities. It would be waay more fun and great exercise too.

And I thought Hellfire HQ was in a lovely cultured area!
