Epic Movie - Possibly the most pointless film ever?

By my own admission, I'm no film buff. I go to the cinema no more than once or twice a year, almost never watch films on TV, and have a very limited collection on video and DVD.

So when my friends suggested that going to see a film as a pleasant thing to do on a sunday afternoon, I wasn't exactly bursting with enthusiasm.

Nevertheless, when we do go, I usually end up pleasantly surprised and enjoy myself. Not so today. For we went to see 'Epic Movie'. I genuinely feel robbed of part of my life.

Fair enough, a satirical comedy in the vein of Scary Movie is never going to be the next blockbuster, but it could at least be funny. Instead, this was badly written tripe which strings together the parodies in a very poor way and only has the vaguest of plots. The same jokes (pissing in the snow, doing something nasty to ones tackle, bimbo female character repeating black female character etc etc) were used over and over and over and over and over again.

The was the odd moment that extracted a smile, but in general it just wasn't that funny.

The lameness of it was further demonstrated in that they weren't even able to make it run to a normal length - it started at 4:30 and the credits rolled barely an hour later at 5:35. On the other hand, perhaps that it was reasonably brief shite is it's only saving grace; were it longer, it would just be shite, plain and simple.

Anyone felt similar, or have I got it all wrong?

oh yes, the last film i went to see at the cinema which i felt like i wasted my life on was layer cake which was totally ruined by the ending.

however, i was most angered by dirty and i had no part in the selection process, (i got a phone call asking 'fancy a dvd and curry') and i must say you should never watch this film (it should never have been made). utterly awful.

i also watched the cave on sky movies a while ago, that also wasted my life. i enjoyed how the characters could talk with a respirator in their mouths.

Epic Movie was just bollocks. There were some funny bits, but it just wasn't consistent and totally pointless.

Waste of money. Hot Fuzz on the other hand - just fantastic. I recommend that one.

So how often do you lot go to the cinema then?

Is it something that's still a regular part of life, or just an occasional thing?

Chris has voted "once or twice a year".

I'm considerably less than that. I last went (once) in 1991 and before that it would have been two or three times in the seventies and four or five times in the sixties. I didn't go at all in the forties, or fifties. Only one of the cinemas I've ever seen a film in is still open.

My excuse is that I avoid such places like the plague because my eyes take an extremely long time to adjust to the dark, so, unless I go in while the lights are up, I trip over the usherette and fall flat on my face on the floor, not making it an enjoyable experience.

I try to go every couple of months or so. Although I'm young so I won't be 'yoof' enough if I avoid it.

In all seriousness, I like the odd film. Although I'm quite picky with genres.

I saw the trailer for Epic Movie, it just did look like one to miss and everyone else said so.

Last film I saw was Hot Fuzz and it was the funniest thing I've seen all year, okay it dragged on a little towards the end, but it wasn't as predictable as what I thought it would be.

Last film where I was well and truly bored was All The Kings Men, I really wanted to like this Film, but I almost fell asleep it was that boring, and believe me for my standard's that's difficult.

I thought Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 was the most overrated film all year, I was just lucky that we went to see it on a free ticket, so my money wasn't wasted on that one.

Another two films I really liked in the last 6 months have been Borat and The Departed.

Agreed Hot Fuzz was great, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it was better than Shaun of The Dead, the final shoot out was great, the middle where it got a bit serious was where it dragged but it picked up again at the end. Liked the swear box as well :D

Also normally for a film full of familiar faces that normally translates into "good cast, crap film" but I'm so glad that wasn't the case here.

Good to see Timothy Dalton & Edward Woodward back on the big screen as well

Going back to Epic Movie, most of these "Hilarious Parodies" are normally a big pile of shyte, they always pick up on the funniest bit of the original film (if it's a comedy film they are taking the piss out off) and just completely reck it

Yes, Hot Fuzz was also the last thing I saw, last Sunday, and it was a very good film, and very funny. But I don't usually go to the cinema very often.

The last mediocre film I remember seeing was Cats and Dogs, which started off alright, but then just went downhill. My dad says the worst and most pointless film he ever saw was Lost in Translation.

Honestly, Nick, seeing that would be worth the inflated ticket price alone! You just can't beat good live comedy!

half dozen times a year on average i can't say there has been anything much i've really wanted to see and have been quite looking forward to see, at least not since the lord of the rings and star wars series.

looking forward to shrek the third and transformers later in the year.

I'm not a movie person, that's not to say I don't appreciate a good one.

Anybody seen/watching on Channel 4 right now, Amélie? It is absolutely fantastic. Full of sharp and subtle humour (such as the scene lasting no more than 5 seconds, a beggar refusing money with "I don't work Sundays").
