Nevertheless, it's faintly depressing that a pathological liar (with, going by the picture in his /pictures directory, an American office) can wield such power.

But, I was under the impression that it's all in his* head, including make believe employees of certain descent.

I meant so much power over what can and can't be said here. I suppose in the end it's about minimising hassle for Gav, and that's understandable.

I'm also sure the metadata from all of those photographs is completely consistent across the site. Some of the pictures DEFINITELY don't look like a school.

Ah, my bad, I get you know. Yes, that concept is depressing indeed.

I'm opposed to censorship of any kind - people should be allowed to air their crazy views and beliefs, which will be denounced as the garbage they are. Covering it up and stopping them from being aired creates the impression that these views have some merit, they're just being suppressed, which in turn strengthens the perception of these views.
This is obviously much more prominent in a large community - banning JM for spouting his endless hate speech is quite fine because we all know it to be nonsense - but in a much larger community he would be able to incite the 'Moderators are trying to cover up the truth/denounce free speech' approach, which he did somewhat try. In some ways, this is the effect created by banning, where legal, discussions about Tidus. The sense created is that Tidus was in the right, and the members of Metropol were in the wrong, and so we've been stopped from talking about it - obviously totally fallacious, but this is the inevitable effect of any kind of censorship; well meaning initially, but damaging in the long term and even subject to abuse were the moderation not quite as holy as Gavin ;)
I would urge Gavin to, while clearly ensuring that nothing libellous and therefore illegal is said, allow discussion and evidenced comments on Tidus. In reality, it is only as a result of the censorship that this whole, worthless little issue and his pathetic little dreams of being a company director has flared up yet again.
Argh - that's a long post! :)

The problem that we have here is that absolutely nothing libelous was said last time either. That didn't stop his fraudulent report to the site host, or them spending valuable time making contact with the site owner (Martin) to investigate.

I understand that they were satisfied that there had been no breach their terms and conditions, but they did suggest that allowing no more references to the individual would be a sensible precaution for the future - perhaps anticipating more of their time being wasted with further complaints.

If I held the contract with the ISP myself (and I'm almost certain I speak for jb too) I would pursue this matter to it's ultimate conclusion. You won't have to read too much between the lines to know what I mean.

But this is Martin's site - and he has taken extended leave of it in anticipation that jb and I will not allow any further nasty interruptions to his schedule.

So for that reason we won't be discussing that individual here.

You are free and welcome to take whatever steps you see fit elsewhere.
