Capturing stuff from Sky+

Hi,
I am at my wits end here.
I have an S-Video Input port on my computer (using AVerMedia BDA capture device) and wanted to save some of my Sky prorgams onto my computer.
I plugged my scart cable into the Sky+ Output port, and the S-Video end into my computer, loaded up virtualdub and all seems to work fine. EXCEPT the bloody image is in black and white!
Just wondered if anyone here knew why the hell this was.
Thanks very much
Chris

Yes, it's set to receive S-Video. I tried setting it to RGB and Composive, incidentally, and it receives nothing.
I suspect it's something to do with the Sky output...
any ideas?
Chris :)

nodnirG kraM wrote:Well the only output options are RGB and PAL; what does setting to the latter do for you? My Sky+ to TV Card is SCART -> RCA composite, from RGB output, but only cos I'm too lazy to look for my S-Video cable.
Apparently it changes nothing (not that I can see anyway)... seems to look the same.
I've found a workaround anyway - plugging into the S Video Out port of the DVD recorder set to Monitor mode. A pain but it does the job :)

I would've thought that lonely USB port on the box could do something along the lines of transferring things.

Sadly it would seem not,

Hi,
I'm actually using a strange device which goes from a SCART cable to an S-Video socket and LR audio plugs (and a LR to Phono converter).

This thing

It has a 'direction' switch on the scart lead meaning which way the signal goes.

Is that device you showed me any different?

I still prefer Betamax.

Essentially no, but it seems the on you are using is better. Just to check, I assume you can get a normal picture if you just use a normal scart to scart lead? Perhaps it might be worth going into the box's menu and playing about with the output as well as the input on the PC...
