Font Renaming

Hello everyone,

Is there a way to rename fonts, so when you're your in Word, say, on the font list it will show up as something completely different to what it installed as.

So I could rename Comic Sans as say Crap Font, or something like that.

I've looked on the internet, and there are applications which will allow you to rename it. However it would only rename 'arialbi.ttf' to 'Arial Bold Italic.ttf', but not to a completely different name.

I am looking to do this for free, because I don't think its worth paying for it.

Thanks for any help,
Jovis

Can I just ask why you want to do that?!

Despite the filename of the font itself eg comicsans.ttf the name of the font is embedded within the font file, it is possible to change, but totally unnecessary.

I wouldn't rename Comic Sans, or any of those important fonts, just fonts which I have installed myself.

The reason is that when I am skimming through my font list, it would be helpful if it had a name which I recognised.

I would like this, there are some fonts that install with odd and annoying names and it would be nice to be able to have them in the list in word with something sensible.

But Comic Sans is a 'friendly' font, just like Uncle Nick is a friendly man!
