Untidy Cypriot flatmates

Every week we have the cleaner round either Wednesday or Thursday morning to clean the kitchen, and we get a notice to tidy it up the night before.

And every bloody week I end up doing all the work, mostly because the girl from Cyprus keeps inviting all her friends round for big meals and leaves a huge mess. It's unacceptable, but if I don't do it, we all suffer because the cleaner will wake us all up and hold us all responsible.

It's annoying me big time and I'm not sure what step to take. Has anyone else had similar experiences and what have they done about it?

Is the fact that she's Cypriot relevant? Are they an untidy race generally?

I know little about the country, only being familiar with their potatoes.

Normally they just throw all their dirty plates into North Cyprus and are done with them

how come you've got to clean up for the cleaner?
What kind of fuckin cleaner is she? a mongolian?
And don't give me none of that the cleaner won't wash up!
I think the greek thinking the same as me.

The cleaner is very good and very friendly, but we do have to wash up our stuff so she can clean the sink, and sweep the floor and take the rubbish out.

I don't know how untidy Cypriots are, or how tasty their potatoes are (she did make some nice bolognese sauce though), but because she speaks little English she will try and use it as an excuse that she doesn't understand what cleaning means. Anyway, all her friends shouldn't keep on coming round just to leave a massive mess - it's unfair on the rest of us when we have to clean up after them.

The next time she has her friends round, you could pass through the kitchen and say, "I do hope this will all be cleared by tomorrow?".

Say it with a smile; and then you can have a go if she leaves a mess.

If the cleaner comes chapping on your door - direct her to the person who left the place a tip.

Yeah I do live on campus. We won't get one next year when we move out into Canterbury.
