The other day i was second in the queue in the right hand lane at red lights. I was waiting to go streight on at a box junction. The driver in front was doing the same as he was not indicating.

The lights change to green, so I follow him in to the junction, where he promptly stops, and puts on his indicator. I am stuck behind the bastard in the middle of the junction.

I wait for him to clear my path, but by the time he has the lights on the other side had gone red.

I could not simply wait in the box junction, so i had to continue through the red light at the other side.

His stupidity is not the worst part though. A friend leads me to believe that I could be liable for 3 points and a fine, for going through the red at the other side, dispite the fact that the lights were green when I entered the junction.

Does anybody know what the law states would be the case in this bizzare set of circumstances?

You only get caught on a red light camera if you go over a sensor in the road after the light has turned to red.

As you passed through the light on green, and therefore the sensor on green, you will be fine.

You would be fine as your exit was clear when you entered the junction. You would only be wrong if the exit straight ahead was blocked by stationary traffic. In that case you musn't enter the junction.

The redlight straight ahead is irrelevent as it is simply a repeater of the one behind you. That is the line you must not cross while the light is at red.

Hi—FIRST EVER Metropol24))7 post :D!

Some of you may know me from TVF.

My understanding is that the law is that one musn't cross a line going across the carriageway, if the light is {red/amber/red and amber}, except if there is a stationary (sorry if that is the office equipment/apparatus spelling/pronounciation!) vehicle on the other side of the yellow-hatched (think that is the word!) box. I'm assuming that when you crossed the line, the light was green, and there wasn't a vehicle stationary on the other side of the box, so, you'd have been fine, according to my assumptions and understandings. The vehicle you were following only started indicating his/her intensions after he had crossed the line, and had made a default straight-ahead indication (I think that is right).

According to you, the vehicle infront 'wasn't' going to need to stop (to stop at stationary vehicles after the box, or to turn), so you followed. He did need to turn, so stopped.

I think what I said is right, though I'm not a license holder, so don't quote me on it :)!

Bye!

P.S. This post-script terminates my inagrual (sp.?) Metropol24))7 post :D!

You would have been fine, but if it was an jobsworth officer who was on duty he might say you shouldn't have gone through the line so close to the car infront unlesss you knew for certain he was going straight on.

That you could then argue since he didn't indicate, a practice which much annoys me! There's one junction in Belfast that's far far worse for what just happened, those here will probably know what I mean where if your coming down Balmoral Avenue near the Kings Hall to turn right onto the Lisburn Road.

This is a straight forward crossroads-esque junction but if you want to turn right, there's a filter arrow which you can use, but if someone wants to go the other way or you just don't make it when filter goes to a yellow light above with the main light staying green, your in deep trouble as then if your sitting out waiting to turn, cars start coming towards you from all directions and blocking the road becuase cars can't get past you, therefore blocking the cars that you want to let you out!

When I use the horn on someone doing something they shouldn't, I always make sure they get a good blast, enough to make those keen pedestrians spot who was at fault and embarass the heck out of them. Great at roundabouts when people don't give way and your coming round :)

Don't get me started on people who dont indicate, particularly on roundabouts. What's the bloody leaver supposed to be for if it isnt to give others plenty of notice?

I was going to say something similar to him like that but I think you should save that until the day seamus215146382579 discovers Metropol but I agree with you.
