Do you have a cupboard full of white label 'no frills' supermarket branded goods, or are you faithful only to the real brands such as Heinz ?

For me, I never buy the real cheap stuff, only serves to disappoint. I've very particular about baked beans, I find it's all in the quality of the tomato sauce.

I'm not a supermarket snob but anyone a regular down Lidl, Netto or Aldi ?

I need this information for a project.

There is a Lidl - a newish Lidl - in Kelso. It's only just started to get that dirty foreign smell recently. I have to say you can get some damn good stuff in there. Their shortbread for instance is excellent, as are their frozen chicken dinners.

Generally we buy branded food. Baked Beans can ONLY be Heinz, same with Tomato Soup. Other stuff however we'll get either Somerfield, Tesco or M&S.

You have to mix and match though, my mother buys Tesco Finest plum tomatoes for some meals, but the somerfield cheapo ones for another (as they have more juice)

That all depends on the product. I love Tesco value Digestives and chocolate digestives. Their concorde value crisps are rather nice too.

I won't buy their value fruit and veg, it turns rotten everso quickly. I much prefer HP beans to Heinz.

And Mouse turns his nose up at any own brand catfood. He only eats whiskas meat or Sheba real shredded chicken breast. For dry food he prefers Royal canin baby kat but James Beloved is ok( ish).

I must agree that Lidl do some damn find food. I do like the ready meal rost dinners they do and the choccy biscuits they stock are well tasty.

There was a ready made meal i bought in Lidl once that i thought was from a German or Belgian company but, when i read the label it was made somewhere in England.

It gets confusing, i'm going to start buying my meat, fruit and veggies from local farmers markets. I'll do my bit for the enviroment and the farmers forever empty wallets ( so they say, but hey all have nice Range Rovers).

I don't think I've had beans in at least a decade.

I can tell the difference between Green Giant sweetcorn and any other brand, so I always pay the few pence extra.

I'm not unmindful of those living on a budget, but I know I fritter away cash like nobody's business, so I don't mind paying more for quality brands.

Similarly, I often pay a premium to go to my little Asian grocer rather than the supermarket on the other side of Easter Road, because the grocer is a charming, helpful, poilte man as opposed to the ugly fat bull-dyke in Scotmid who cuts the queue for personal purchases, and bitches about other staff members in front of customers.

Nothing beats Asda smart price corned beef. Mummmmmm.

We are not usualy fussy apart from one or two things, I will never touch own brand cerial nor anything other than Heinz Beans.

Have picked this up from my parents - even though we were poor (everyone say awww) and lived on yello pak food (See earlier thread) we always had Kellogs and Heinz Beans.

Oooh! You just reminded me. Asda bread. There is nothing nicer than a still warm freshly baked Asda uncut loaf or french stick. If i can get it home before it cools too much, or hollowed out by picking at the loaf on the way home, the butter melts and it brings out the flavours of the cheese, washed down by a glass of something chilled and white. You can't get any better than that.

Tesco pittas and homous are better.

Asda's [homous] tastes quite powdery. Tesco's is more smooth.

im not usualy a big fan of ASDA - other than the Corned beef - have not shopped there for anything else for about 4 years. Prefer Tesco or M&S

Oh i know what you mean. Green giant unless it's fresh corn on the cob ( nicked from the field behind my mums caravan) with tons of Anchor butter. And as for frivolity with money, it slips through my fingers easier than water.
