PC Clinic: How do I get rid of this icon?

These wee arrows have appeared next to some folders I use regularly on the server. However, on other terminals, my colleagues (accessing the same folders) do not see the blue arrows.
What's up with this? What are they/where did they appear from? What do they mean and how do I get rid of them?
Many thanks in advance guys. Did a bit of a search about, but couldn't find any hints.

Don't the arrows refer to it being a "synchronised" folder?
Perhaps right-clicking and checking for that would sort it?

go to my computer
go tools -> folder options
offline files and uncheck the enable offline files option.
if you aren't on a network, this can use quite a lot of disk space.

in a similar vain, it's it possible to hide the little hand holding shared folders?
I have a folder shared over my network and the hand is rather annoying

A long winded way of doing things would be to use something like Microangelo
http://www.microangelo.us/ to create a blank icon and then re-assign the hand overlay to it.

Thanks for shedding some more light on this Gavin, and thanks for your solution Dr Lobster*.
