Oyster cards

Does anyone use these on the tube? How much do they slash on the regular fare? And how does the pay as you go thing work? Do you have to 'top up' before you travel as you would with your mobile?

Yes, lots of people use them. I did for a short period when I was in London a lot.

How much do they cut fares? Depends who you are, how you use it, where you use it, when you use it, etc. There are different types for different travellers. Check the TFL website and it'll explain all.

And yes you do have to top them up, kind of like a mobile.

They are worth it if you do a significant amount of commuting, but for the casual traveller aren't worth a look.

Thanks very much Cat. At the moment I'm just a casual traveller but later in the year I'll be in London 3 or 4 days a week so this could come in handy.
