I'm finding all these spambots tiresome, I really am.
There has been a glut of new signups lately, and I can barely find the time to keep deleting them all down.
I'll sweep this away later, but if anyone wants to see my in my chambers about how we can prevent these bogus members then contact me.

That's easy - the member in question has to answer a short quiz about TV idents before they can join!

what version of phpBB are we on at the moment? A quick skeck at the phpBB mods page suggests that a capcha (those distorted letter things) is part of the default install ever since 2.0.11

well the current version is 2.0.20 so it's kinda out of date. I'm pretty sure that all versions below about 10 were vunerable to some sort of mass spamming attack too.
I take it Martin's still the only one with keys to the FTP?

At the moment yes, but there are one or two changes planned for the not too distant future.

Will we also do a news 24 and revamp something that doesn't need revamping (i.e. the submit button) whilst leaving the problem of the new private message feature as monged as ever?

You say that, Hyma, but I've gotten a sneak preview and it's AMAZING....

now THAT is a submit button!
