Wheres the download for the new, new, version?

I can't beleive Microsoft are dropping the MSN brand!

Windows Live Messenger (WLM) looks horrible! I'll be sticking to MSN Messenger until they stop us from connecting to it, and then I'll move over to Skype or Yahoo.

This latest beta of Windows Live Messenger, is a vast improvement over the previous one, which had quite a different
but not particularly pleasant user interface, and crashed almost as often as Netscape 6.0 used to! The UI of this beta
looks to have been tweaked and refined to resemble the looks of the current non-beta MSN Messenger 7.5.

Microsoft have taken a leaf from the book of Google Mail with this. You have to receive an invitation to download this.

And when you install it the Messenger beta, your existing Messenger installation is overwritten, so if you want to
keep Messenger 7.x installed, back up the contents of it's folder to C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\7.x\ and
recreate the link for it's the desktop icom to point to the new location of the older version's main *.exe file.

You'll be able to talk to people on Microsoft's network with a Yahoo! client soon (and vice-versa):

Click the "sign up" and fill in your MSN Messenger e-mail address. Doing this may get you an invitation, eventually.

Hotmail is also being replaced with 'Windows Live Mail'. At the moment it works best with IE (suprise, suprise) with support for Firefox still being a bit ropey.

How long do you have to wait to get the latest version, I'm on, as you say the odd interface/crashey version.. I somewhat suspect the latest version would work as my msn address is all ready *approved* as it were.

sharing folders is a ncie idea, if it was faster.

I've noted it's less in your face / down your throat like it was in the last beta though.

Don't like the white look however but the UI is much nicer, the "expanding contacts" was particularly infuriating.

I have both Windows Live Mail and Messenger. Mail is very slow when on normal view and it flicks to Hotmail Classic when viewed on Firefox.

I've heard a new version of WLMail (you can't even use initials as Mail and Messenger both start with a M :roll:) is coming out soon.

What I would like to know is how/if this affects the so-called 'Microsoft Messenger' or Mac OS X. No doubt we'll wait another year (or two) for another release, but will MS actually deliver anything serious this time? Currently at v5, that's like the Windows MSN v5 but stripped down and without A/V.
