"The Mart"

i've just been down to the local drinking establishment, and i note that the so-called "mart" is here again.
it comes to king's lynn every february 14th (or thereabouts) for two weeks.
basically, it's a great big fairground with hugely overpriced rides and other attactions (where you can win a shitty fluffy toy or whatever) it seems to tour the country. it's next destination is wisbech about 14 miles down the road, but where does it go next?
here are some random pictures i took on my mobile on the way to the pub:

i'm just wondering, does this health and safety atrocity visit a town near you and if so, when?

There's usually one in York which has those machines with little clasps that have ciggies in them.

I believe it is due to the staff at these funfairs that "travellers" are disliked by large sections of society. The inbred, evil freaks that run these places deserve to be lined up and shot.
Not that I'm bitter about not getting that teddy bear when the arse accused me of cheating.

C'mon guys. don't be so harsh. These places can often be a riot of mirth.
Also good to note that the
University of Sheffield is spending their grants wisely.

I get on very well with the showmen, to give the fairground people their proper name.
We have a large section of the Jennings family and extended family who overwinter here in Devizes. It has to be said that they're a damn good crowd.
Because of their Devizes history, we get more fairs than most towns. We get the "assembly" fair at the beginning of the season, when all the different groups get together, prior to moving around together for the summer; and the dis-assembly" fair late in the autumn; as well as three or four normal ones.
They're great supporters of the carnival charities and anything else that's going on.
The chaplain to showmen was based in Devizes for many years because of the large number based in the town.
