In the newsagents today I was compelled to laugh at The Sun for demanding that this guy who wasn't actually a suicide bomber be caught, whilst at least one other paper had already found and chatted with him!

It got me onto wondering what people out here in metropooland read if anything.

Especially James Martin.

So, go on - ave a poll! I'll try and get all the right ones in, in no particular order!

i have a flick through most newspapers when they're lying around at work - i don't tend to buy nationals very often though, usually only when i'm going on the train or flying somewhere. i like the indepentant, times and guardian. i also read the daily mail and sun. it's good to get different viewpoints on a story. local papers i buy the lynn news and edp.

Generally browse the paper's websites now - Guardian, Times, Telegraph. Will buy The Times and/or Guardian if going on a long train journey.

I read the Grauny every day, and kind of keep an eye on the other broadsheets (or whatever we're calling them now) through their websites and occasionally buying them. Same for the big internationals like the Herald Tribune, and the weeklies. I read the tabloids too if they're floating around where I happen to be, which happens with disturbing frequency.

I also read The Grauny's Wrap to get a potted summary of what's in most of the nationals every day.

I read the Mirror each day for light reading and i buy The Times every couple of days. I also buy The Observer every couple of weeks and also look at the FT when i have the time for free at Uni.

Local rag wise all the free ones that come through the door are just adverts or property and point you in the direction of the Surrey Hearald which costs 45p.

The Uni also produces a newsapaper every fortnight, although most issues its hardly worth the bother picking them up and having a flick through.

The Plymouth Evening Herald for me. I find it strangely comforting to know that I live in a place where topics like 'fined for dog mess in my own garden' can make the front page banner headline (this actually was the top story yesterday).

Also find it interesting when news in the city is so sparse that a double page spread is given over to something happening outside of Plymouth, which doesn't affect Plymouth in any way, and does not directly involve anyone from Plymouth, but is justified because it's about someone whose best friend's step father's dog walker lived in Keyham 10 years ago.

All quite innocent and funny, but when something big does happen, they've proven that they're quite up to the task of covering it properly and comprehensively, which many other local rags cannot do.

Reading a paper without a red masthead doesn't make you intelligent or owt.

Well, by serious I mean not showbiz, soap gossip etc. I don't want a heavy read but by the same token I don't want a paper leading with how big Chantelle's tits are.
