Java issues

Just wondering if anyone could help me with this as it's bugging me like crazy!

Basically, I was using Yahoo Games earlier which uses JAVA and it decides to crash on me. The rest of the PC is fine but I can't close down the window so I did the task manager trick and although it wasn't responding, I closed it down that way.

From that, I am unable to use any java applets. I can either not log onto anything that uses Java or see such creations like the random ident on the TV Forum homepage.

What have I tried so far you might ask..
Ive removed Java totally from PC and reinstalled an offline install of Java to no avail.

Someone mentioned to try a different browser such as Firefox but that didnt work although I now have a second browser on my PC :D

Version of Internet Explorer is 6.0.2900.2180 of the SP2 variety.
JAVA is version 2 Standard Edition 1.5.0 build -0.6

Everything seems to be enabled through the tools on explorer, I run a virus scan/spyware scan and nothing appears.

Just wondering for anybody's technical expertise in here. Any help is gratefully appreciated.

try uninstalling java and deleting the folder C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun from your profile, that usually fixes most java problems.

This is an obvious and cliched one but have you tried rebooting your PC?

I often find this sometimes cures my PC's temporary ills after a program crash.

Hi, as you can tell how late my original thread starter was sent, you might have guessed that I spent most of the day in bed!

Anyway problem sorted. I did try a reboot of the PC amongst other things. Deleting things left right and centre. However it appears the fix was by changing the security settings on IE. Now, whether what I did by reinstalling JAVA along the way did the trick but for some reason, my explorer security settings were higher and were not allowing cookies to allow me to log on to certain places that used JAVA.

The weird thing is that I've never changed the settings at all since I got my new PC. But anyhow, all working again but thanks as always to those that have replied. It's very much appreciated.
