One of the members of British Nazi Party (not a typo) has been acquitted of charges of inciting racial hatred.

Jury acquit BNP man of race hate

A jury at Leeds Crown Court has acquitted BNP activist Mark Collett of four racial hatred charges.

The jury is still considering its verdicts on another four charges and those against BNP leader Nick Griffin.

Mr Griffin, 44, and Mr Collett, 24, had denied using words intended to stir up hatred in West Yorkshire in 2004.

are you incapable of having a reasoned debate? you are very passionate about the subject, but what is the point of the thread if you are completely closed to any kind of discussion about the rights and wrongs of the case?

i can't agree with this.

i don't agree with some of the tatics used by the bnp, but in the end, they must be allowed to have their freedom of expression just like we allow others in society (such as islamic fundamentalists) to have their own opinion and freedoms.

if our society isn't going to self-destruct in the next few years we are all going to have to learn to except people are going to hold views we personally find abhorant.

you said in your post that you'd like to punch those two men in the face because you don't like what they stand for.... is that really any different to what is going on in the middle east right now? not really. it's a different scale but it's two opposing views both thinking they are right.

we are all entitled to have our own opinions, racist, homophobic, xenophobic or whatever. that's free speech, that's a free and open society. we must all be mature enough accept that people will say and believe in things we don't like and not try to supress it in such a way we end up becoming no better than these destructive societies in the middle east which appear to be in a perpetual turmoil

As Mr Mercia and Mark have said, polls worded in this fashion don't engender reasonable debate; and as we are a fairly broad church we have to allow people to respond to the options without having to cast themselves a "shitbag".

However unpalatable I find the philosophies of organisations which seek to separate human kind, I must accept that they exist, and do so because of the collective will of their membership.

I think laws concerning "incitement to racial hatred" are highly questionable at their core. It seems peculiar that the bnp can exist as a political party, while the words they use at meetings are an offense.

Everyone has free will. Just because I am told to hate someone doesn't make it so.

Commiting criminal acts is one thing. Saying hateful things is quite another.

Similarly by the media ignoring or constantly attacking them, you create a situation where they become attractive because they're 'underground' and mysterious.

If you broadcast their views, most people will be able to judge for themselves, they become a normal political grouping and, as has been said, shoot themselves in the foot.

It doesn't need any sort of media boycott or constant bashing by journalists - they can implode quite happily by themselves - if you let them have that rope.
