Jamez has resigned as moderator

it's plain for all to see there is a problem here at metropol and at the crux lies a simple issue:

do you think jamez should be relieved of his moderator duties and return to posting as a normal user?

for those who have not been following the forum crisis, here's a roundup of events:

jamez has...

 posted sexually explicit images of a member who has requested no such images be posted

 censored, removed, edited and locked threads where no clear breach of the forum terms and conditions have occured

 told members of the forum to 'Fuck off' and made other aggressive comments

 used a prevous members full name to accuse them of being sideshow ed with no supporting evidence.

 made tasteless, crass and possibly libellous comments towards a forum member

there are several more instances of unacceptable conduct which i'm sure you'll be able to find.

You have far too much time on your hands, Lobster.

Maybe you should spend more time worrying about things that matter and not the moderation of a small internet community to which you seem to assumed some sort of of pretentious leadership role.

As a long time regular reader of this forum, but a first poster, I have a few thoughts on this saga.

Jamez has been an entertaining poster for several years and I was disappointed when he decided to stop posting.

However, that was his right and is to be accepted.

It's fair enough for the forum owner to ask him to come back - but offering a moderating role to someone who had said publicly they wouldn't be part of the forum anymore seems ridiculous.

The behaviour demonstrated since then has clearly indicated his lack of suitability for the role.

Attention-whore antics. Hypocrisy. Downright appalling action in many cases. Racism. The list goes on.

Dr Lobster is a man who over the time I've read the forum has talked a lot of sense. (Uncomfortable comments re muslims aside). His stance on the Jamez situation and his determination to be public about it are to be supported - he clearly enjoys the forum and doesn't want it ruined.

In Gavin Scott, metropol has an asset - an admin/mod who knows how to strike the right tone, when to take action, when to let things be. His task is no doubt made massively harder by the way Jamez has been carrying on.

This is not a case of "give it time" - Jamez isn't feeling his way into the role - he's just showing he's the wrong choice of mod.

I like a lot of his contributions in the past - if Jamez took the bold decision to resign as a mod, and got back to being an entertaining poster, speaking his mind, entertaining us with tales of car crashes, girls he's shagged and his efforts to make a million, that would be the best way forward.

Let's not campaign for Jamez to be pushed - he should take the initiative and stand down, with some dignity intact.

I look forward to him remaining a member of the forum for years to come.

The internet is a massive place.

However, it is made smaller by the ability to search via engines like Google.

How would you like it if someone made repeated references to you by your real name?

How would you like it if an employer, a lover, etc. "Googled" you and made a decision about you based on something someone else had written?

Maybe you should spend more time addressing the needs of the members of this voluntary community than using it (badly) as a method to correct what you believe are incorrections in the way others view you.

Grow up, Jamez, and show the innate intelligence most of us believe you have.

To the members and administration of Metropol247.co.uk,

After some thought, it seems that my role of moderator is no longer required on this site, as I cannot assume the role of authority and express my own views on subjects without them being in conflict with my position.

I hereby declare my decision to revoke my duties as a moderator on this site with immediate effect.

I would also like to apologise to all those who feel their enjoyment of Metropol has been disrupted during my short tenure as moderator.

I was initially made a moderator by Martin to help stop trolls such as Bones/Sideshow Ed from continuing their widely disliked reign of unnecessary posts. Since then, Isonstine has admitted that he was the person behind Bones/Dusty & Sideshow Ed.

I hope that the whole forum will move on from this, and make a fresh start.

Thank you,

James.

Yes i think he should stepdown. If only to get this place back to some normality ( whatever that is). I like Jamez but even i'm beginning to get fed up with all these threads about him.

Now that he has signalled his intention to stand down, lets hope that Jamez can get back to being the entertaining poster he used to be.

A brave decision, and he's to be commended for making it.

Couldn't agree more. Maybe we can get back to normal. As for a new mod. I'm not gonna vote for anyone. If another is needed i'm sure Martin, Gavin and Johnnyboy will make the right choice.

Gosh, I know this is only an internet thinggy, but I'm a wee bit shaken with today's goings-ons.

Thanks to James for taking the gracious way out of this unpleasant scenario. The original appointment was made so as to prevent anyone from leaving, and certainly wasn't done to create more tensions.

Anyway, job done.

Can I take it from all this that calls of hypocracy will cease, and we will resume to a more petty and enjoyable round of name calling?

Let's all have a drink and relax.

I think it's disgusting that he's been forced out. Very poor show.

At least Ison's finally admitted what we all knew re Bones & Dusty.

Oh shut up you silly little fool. READ through the posts about what people thought of James's moderation instead of fawning desparetely for no reason.

When it came to the crux James did what a lot thought was the right thing to do and stepped down (applauds by the way).

There is NO need for any new moderators at all. This place is enclosed in its own small little bubble community and is to all effects self-sustaining. Save extremely provocative threads, spamming, or arguments that have spiralled out of control (none of which happen often on here) how often does any mod/ the admin have to step in, hand out warnings, or ban. It's a damn site many time less then on the *other place* and it works fine as it is.
