Whenever there is a tag for something about a city, I always watch very carefully because on recent trends Hull is often in there getting slated for something or other. There’s a survey out for our rudest cities and Birmingham comes out top! Birmingham has just received a far less welcomed claim to fame – it’s the rudest city in the UK. Cities have been voted the rudest in Britain after undercover researchers had been sent in to test the politeness of passers-by. They measured the locals’ politeness by dropping bags of shopping to see whether anyone would pick them up and listening for whether shop assistants said please or thank you. I think on this one Hull should come out on top for being the friendliest as everyone always says how polite and friendly people are around here. Anyway, Birmingham is the rudest city, number two was Edinburgh, and Exeter was the third, followed by Cardiff, then London and Southampton. No towns or cities in our area were mentioned in that survey at all, which was great news for us!

So what's your rudest city?

Here is my little top 5:
I agree about Birmingham, no respect for anyone. That is at number 1 with number 2 being Liverpool. 3 is Bristol, 4 is Stirling and 5 is London.

It's London for me - it's the only place I've been in the world where people push onto trains without letting others alight first. Even at rush hour in some of the more frenetic cities I've visited, this common courtesy is observed, but apparently not on the London Underground. That's just rude.

how on earth can they be sure the people who didn't hold doors open, or say please, thank you etc are actually from the cities being tested?

being the second biggest city, birmingham does attract a large number of people who come to the city to work from surrounding areas, around the country and, indeed around the world.

it was a wholly unscientific survey aimed to drum up publicity for readers digest, i really don't get why the news channels gave it so much publicity.

Agree with you on London, we do have a rude bunch here, normally old boys in suits & career women

Nottingham has very polite people, when I visited recently, they don't look misrable either

"Polite" and "don't look miserable" are definitely not terms I'd put in the same sentence as "Nottingham"...

How fucking dare you!

From worst to best.

1. Liverpool. I guess it's because it's a neighbouring city.

2. London. People always seem to rush in there, they need to slow down.

3. Manchester. Even though I live here, some people can be so rude.

All the rest I've been to are fine.

Well being from the number two rudest city, I will be visiting the number one site tomorrow.

I agree that Edingburgh is a rude place. But ive been to Birmingham at least five times this year and the people where most polite.
But this weekend I was visiting a sister in Bristol and I didnt feel safe in the city center and a shop assistent in BHS seemed like a certain teenage TV charecter therefore bristol truely is the rudest place in the country!!!
