Idiots who purchase Apple merchandise

From computers to gadgets, Apple have to be one of the worst manufacturers of technology in the world. Much of their user base seems to be those who are obsessed with their image and although it is undeniable that many of their designs are sleek that is not the functional point of technology. Certainly, some will claim that apple pioneer their market and stand in awe of a 10GB hard drive fitted into a device which increases their ego or are totally taken in by the torrents of marketing bollocks trying to promote their wares. But Apple don't. They prey on those who are technologically illiterate and who feel the need to join "one of the converted". Ask anyone why they got an "Ipod" and their response will undoubtedly be one of "It looks cool", "All my mates have one", "It's so easy to use" -- that is, of course, until the battery goes wrong and they have to go moaning to the Apple repair centre who thence charge them £150 to replace it. Oh, and I wonder why you can't transfer back from the IPOD to the computer? ITunes is just as bad; appealing off this ungluttable market of trendy iPod owners, it is an awful program which attempts to dominate on install. It takes an age to load and has some pathetic excuse for an interface. You can't even get Qraptime standalone any more without a great deal of searching on the Apple site. Instantly, those who "convert" exude a sense of superiority over those who use sensible technology rather than the fashionable counterpart. And if you can pull it off, fashion and supposedly impressive numbers, along with smooth voiceovers on the ads, are one of the quickest ways to win over a market. Hell, have you seen the people in those Switch ads? Totally clueless; they switched over because they didn't understand other OSes and wanted something Early Learning Center-esque where they felt on the same level as the computer. It's a very human desire. "It doesn't crash"; "It doesn't get viruses" -- that's because it's currently not the most-used operating system. Plus, only idiots get viruses anyway - it's common sense what's a virus and what's not and those who fail to backup or use rubbish software deserve to get one in my view. Ever wondered why PC's "lock up" (don't you just love non-techie vague language?)? It's because you click YES to every warning dialog and allow your computer to become laden with spyware and junk. It's because you have no idea how to optimise your computer usage. The difference with a mac is that you don't get a choice: everything's disabled from the start. This is really a thread for all us non-Apple users to gloat for once at those who have been taken in by a fuzzy air of trendiness, simplicity and image; the people who float towards the glossy "white and glass" design and don't even care about the numbers. Even those who think they know technology don't; they go for a "Powerbook", "iBOOK", etc (the names just give it away) because they can't properly utilise more poweful OSes. It can't be denied: that's what Apple's all about.

Those magpies who are attracted to expensive shiny things, head for Apple.

Those of us who understand and feel competent with technology can stick with what we have.

There's a certain thing I hate about iTunes music download service.

Reasonably wide selection, shame about the shite audio file quality. Oh, and the DRM.

Then again, people who use any legal music download service (apart from that Russian one where you can get it in any quality from MP3 to original CD wave)are suckers. :D

You know just because you don't particularly like Apple doesn't mean anyone who does is completely simple. Yeah, Apple's products are simple. And their hardware quality control is crap (don't even mention In-ear headphones).

However I don't see what's wrong with the Software. Yeah the iTunes/QT for Windows is bollocks, but it's no worse than IE/WMP/MS Messenger for Mac. And what's more powerful about Windows? I was under the impression that Unix was the most powerful OS availabe - and Mac OS is a heavily souped up BSD with eye candy. It may be simple to use, but isn't the point of technology to make life easier?

And then your brief comment on viruses/spyware. Well yeah, if Mac OS was the market leader it would be vunerable. But it isn't the market leader, mainly because Mac OS9 and below was a pile of shite. Doesn't make OSX bad. I'm not bothered if less than 1/10 people use OSX. It's my choice. Windows for work, Mac for anything else. It just works for me.

Arrogant wanker...
Power users may like macs because they suffer little or no :
- Virii
- Spyware
- Gaping insecurities from shoddy software

AND EVEN EXPERIENCED PEOPLE GET VIRUSES SOMETIMES.

And how the fuck can you see stuff being disabled initially as a worse outcome than every ruddy hole being open on install like Windows gives you!

Other specialists are also brought to Apple tech because of the suitability of the hardware for graphics design, video production and music production. Why? They're powerful, they don't run shite by default and because they're based on open source these days they're incredibly easy to script for.

I'm hardly on the Expereinced end of the spectrum... yet I'm still awaiting the day this computer gets a virus  Heck, this thing's actually running Windoze, and, and, no virus checker!

Technically Macs are fairly advanced, near or indeed parring other OSes. Their simple userface however hinders this greatly, principalyl because they're targeted at idiots. The lack of support for them is what makes it worst.

And I don't think there's anything more hideous than that Brushed Metal skin Apple use for iTunes and QuickTime. The user controls are so user friendly they miss out vitally important functions and as for that stupid diamond which acts as the progress bar...

There are a hardcore group of Mac users who feel vastly superior now they own one of these image-boosting devices and it's these people I wish to dispel.

You have the nerve to accuse other people of having pretensions yet you are the one spouting a load of badly-written, condescending, sanctimonious drivel.

Looks like James was pissed as a far there - either that or he was just really struggling to suppress his latent homosexuality once more. Bloody poofs.
