Okay, so i can make music on a computer, but I cannot do the real deal, and that's being a real disc jockey (ie. Eyeball Paul from the film Kevin and Perry Go Large)
I know there are some of you out there who know a bit of doing this.
All I want to know is what equipment is required, what the basics are, and how to mix.
I've found a book about the basics that I may by soon anyway, but I was wondering if you lot could help me out.
Cheers 8)

Well..............
First you need an electronic means of amplifying the sound.

Hmmm, I'm drawing a blank. What do you have in mind, Nick? Does it have vacuum tubes and some sort of transducer?

What about a top-spec megaphone?

Can depend.
If you're seriously into the beatmixing stuff then splash out on some Pioneer CDJ-100s. Or if you like your MP3 shit get two soundcards and a copy of PCDJ.
In both cases a good mixer with shitloads of effects is important.
As to how to mix is really a trial and error thing I'm afraid. Altering the pitch and/or the tempo controls is how you beat-match.
If you're into the radio stuff, get involved with a hospital or student radio station.

Well I'm only 13 and I'm looking for the average bedroom equipment.
As far as I know I need a mixer and turntables. Do they use 12" records or something else?

Far as I know it's 12" vinyl, in which I've seen a lot of new stuff in Manchester HMV at the back with the people who pretend to know about such things.

Just had a look at DJ Kit.co.uk, how about the first package (Gemini XL120 & Numark DM 950) at the top of the page:

Argos do some vinyl Homemix decks for about £130ish. They're not the dogs balls but at the end of the day with vinyl you need two turntables with pitch control and a mixer really.
I would steer clear of vinyl though. The days of vinyl in DJing are numbered, and CDs are slowly but surely taking over. Judge Jules uses only CD now for instance.
