Does anyone know if there is a way of hiding certain programs from certain users on my PC running Windiws XP pro?

The reason why I want to know this is that my brother wants to use his own program, but I'm trying to hide it from other users.

But why do you want to hide it from the other users?

Depending on how IT literate your folks are, you can simply remove the shortcuts from the shared desktop/start menu and simply place them on your and your brother's desktop/start menu. If they don't know much about computers then they probably won't twig.

Isn't there a way in which were you install a program, there is a folder for a certain user where you can install it?

No, everything tends to get lumped into the "Program Files" folder.

IN my day you could choose where it's installed - have you not tried "custom" options in the installer?

Also I'm curious - when you say you don't know because you're not fucking Bill Gates, do you mean because you're not having sex with him or because you're not him?

Either way it isn't really necessary. I think, however, you and the rest of the forum have different criteria for being "up on IT".

So why not install GNU/Linux and use that instead?

Then you could easily manage what files and programs are visible to different users, and you would not have to pay for third party software to do such a simple operation.

Even Cheesehead has succeeded in installing and using a GNU/Linux operating system, so it should pose no problem for yourself.

And yes, you can run numerous native Windoze programs under GNU/Linux using WINE.

Actually, how is Wine doing these days? I last tried it about 5 years ago and it was a touch on the poor side.
