I still haven't got round to sorting out broadband in my new place yet (a little bird tells me that there's a free wireless signal around here, so I'll investigate that first).

Anyway, since I've been using the computer on my new telephone line, I keep getting a box appearing every so often saying "You have just ignored an incoming call" and then it promptly disconnects the Internet. VERY frustrating if you're chatting to someone on MSN!

My modem is a shitty Aztech V.92 something or other, but I never had this problem at my old house when dialing up.

Anyone help me at all?

First of all, BB would take up to 10 days...

£17.99 for the first month, and also a £12 set-up charge (because I wont be on an annual contract because I very much doubt I will want to continue living in this festering eliteist scum-corner of Cardiff beyond the end of January.

If you have call waiting on your line, this is what it does.

You can usually turn it off on a internet session by session basis by tacking 1470 in front of your dial-up number ala:

1470 0844 056 4000

Cannot get BB at the mo as you need to sign up for 12 months - surely there is at least 1 company out there that doesn't require you to sign up for 12 months?!

Plusnet (iffy and ask for "deferred activation fee" if you leave within the first 5 years)
F2S (great if a touch expensive)
Demon insist on 12 months but that's a total of £240 for a year for unlimited 2meg with free modem and connection.
adsl4less.com are reasonably cheap for 512k but a bit much for 2mb

1470 is nothing to do with call waiting service; it's to release your calling line identity for tracking purposes, which is required by many ISPs. The details are here.

To turn off call waiting service, you need #43#. The details are here.

I'm trying to remember my old Telex number, 4 4 9 3 something something, if I remember rightly. It might still be a valid number, so I won't bother the subscriber by giving out all the digits.

You don't have to pay the "deferred activation fee" if you choose to pay the fee up-front, as you have to with F2S.
