Silence is goldern... Or is it?

After having taken the day off work to allow an engineer into my flat to fix the washing machine, which has decided to puke all over the kitchen floor.
Anyway there came an awful hour and a half when he finished playing about an called someone for a spare part, when it was myself and this guy with absolutly nothing to talk about.
So an hour of almost silence ensued. I felt bloody ashamed that I had nothing to talk about and for a brief period my life seemed totally devoid of any meaning, so is it just me? or can small talk sometimes be the hardest thing?

Most people aren't worth the effort of smalltalk. What would you gain by making the effort? Nothing. Exactly.

I didn't have that problem this week when the plumber arrived to fit my new bathroom suite.

At almost exactly the moment he turned off the water and took out the toilet I developed the symptoms of a nasty bug which left me unable to do anything much other than sit in the garden with my head in a bucket.

It's my sense of timing.
