My recent acquisition . . .
The Motorola v220 . . . I'd lost my classic Nokia 3210 ages ago, and I needed a new cellphone for work, so I got
that one. It's got a camera, WAP internet, polyphonic ringtones and stuff, although I didn't particular want one
with a bunch of gratuitous extra features. The one I was really looking to get was this one . . .
The Nokia 3510 . . . a logical and sensible step up from the cellphone I had. Unfortunately, it was sold out in all
the shops I wanted to get it from. Specifically the Orange shops, as I've been with them since December 1999.
This would've been the ideal upgrade, as it's doesn't have too many unnecessary things, aside from a colour
display and WAP internet. I know Orange aren't the cheapest network, but considering I don't actually use
my cellphone a lot, it doesn't really. Because of that, a cellphone contract would be a waste of money.
Anyway, I ended up buying the Motorola v220, for a couple of other reasons . . . my first ever cellphone was
a Motorola m3788, which I've still got. It still works, but only just. The battery only lasts approximately half
of it's original amount of usage time on a full charge nowadays, so I keep it handy as a spare. The other
reasons is that I've always liked the look of those "clamshell" style cellphones.
When I decided to upgrade from that phone, I got a Philips Orange Savvy, so I could just swap the SIM
card over from the old Motorola. I've even still got that, but the original battery is effectively dead now.
I've briefly been with BT Cellnet (back when I worked for them at the Bury Call Centre in 2000) using
a Mitsubishi Trium, a Philips C12 (black version of the Savvy) and that Nokia 3210 that I've since lost!
That same Nokia 3210 has also had brief encounters with One2One/TMobile, and Virgin Mobile.
My only gripe about this Motorola v220 is that even though I've taken a few pictures with the built in
camera, I can't find a way of downloading them on to my computer. I've tried Mobile Phone Tools
software from Motorola, but that only lets me sync the names list on the phone, and enables
the phone to be used as a pseudo dial up internet modem, which is of no use to me.
What's the point of having a camera on a cellphone, if I can't transfer the pics to my computer?!?
And don't say picture messaging, as that's a feature I've very little intention of using . . . if ever!

Me neither, to be honest. Whenever I see that stupid little advert for "3", with those stupid little
characters saying, "Watch music videos - on yer mobile!" - "Watch goals - on yer mobile!"
. . . it leaves me thinking only one thing . . . "Why would I want to . . . ?!?"
I don't want to watch goals, because I'm not that interested in football. And if I want to watch
music videos, I'll watch a music video channel on Sky, or download them from the internet!
