Bank Holidays - we need more

No Bank Holidays until August. Then no proper time off until Xmas.
That's what faces me and millions of other people in the UK.
Should we have one Bank Holiday a month? People would get more time away from work - more time to relax, destress and spend with their families and friends.
I can't really see any disadvantage. The cost to business would be minimal, as business done on Bank Holidays would just get done on the following day.
Let's start a "War On Terror" against Britain's too few public holidays.

trouble is though, a lot of people (especially in retail) don't really benefit from more public holidays since these are the busiest periods so they either have to work, or choose to work because of the extra money it brings.
it's only your generic 9-5 business and local government which actually has the time off.

We certainly need one in that long, long drag from August to Christmas.
I think October 25th, or thereabouts, would be excellent.

Yes we get a glut of Scottish Bank Holidays at the start of the year and none toward the end. Its a piggin' nightmare.
However I seem to recall I have about 15 days of holiday left so I should have a think about where to squander them.

Given a choice, I'd rather have six extra days leave per year to take whenever I want, rather than have to take days off when roads are full of caravans, many shops are shut, those that aren't are full of people, as are any vaguely pleasant visitor attractions... and there's sod all to watch on TV when you find staying at home is the only realistic option.
Thankfully where I work I can choose to work on Bank Holidays and get paid extra or else take days in lieu.

Move to Northern Ireland. We have the 12th and 13th of July, and the 17th of March.
Unless you work for the BBC, when you don't.

Indeed, what with the 2 at Easter, then May Day and then a few weeks later Spring Bank. Most of our non-Christmas bank holidays are within 2 months.
I believe we have the least compared the other countries in Europe.

I think they were talking about the end of October actually for an extra bank holiday but I think some people "rubbished" the idea in parliment

We have Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day, May Day, Easter Monday, Good Friday, Spring Bank Holiday, August Bank Holiday.
Where I work we get the Tuesday after Easter Monday, Spring Bank Holiday and August Bank Holiday as extra days off work, however rather than close the office on those days they decided to add them to our annual leave so we get an extra 3 days whenever we want to take them.
I do think Wales deserve to have 1st March as a BH for St Davids Day though.
