I bought one of the 4KUS DVR-230 DVD Recorders from Asda last night for £99.99 - I'd read a few reviews about it and it seems like it's pretty highly rated.

However with the signal I get from the TV Tuner the sound is quite distorted. I've tried fine tuning the signal but no difference.

I don't think it's my aerial as it's perfect with my TV & VCR - plus I tried it in the living room which runs off a completely seperate aerial and it was the same.

I phoned the ASDA Advise helpline (yes that's adviSe) and they suggested turning the scart lead around - when I said that that makes no difference they told me it must be a fault with the machine and to take it back for a replacement.

I did this a couple of hours ago, got the new one back, and I've still got the same problem! :roll:

Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same DVD Recorder as you, but I paid £139.97 for it last November, but I've never had any problems with it, but I tend to use SCART connections for connecting it to my TV and to my NTL Box, so I can't really say for RF connections.

I recently bought a Panasonic DVD Recorder and a Sony Integrated Digital TV, with a 'Smart Link' feature that sends the decoded digital signal from the TV to the VCR or DVD Recorder (a must-have, because even though the DVD Recorder cost £260, it doesn't have a built-in digital decoder - a classic example of inbuilt obsolecence on Panasonic's part).

I'm very disappointed with the playback quality of digital TV I've recorded onto DVDs via the 'Smart Link'. It's not 'bad', but then it's not 'good' either - it's like the quality you'd get if you recorded a good analogue signal onto a VHS tape. I even bought expensive gold Scart leads but it made no difference.

I've spent about a grand altogether because I was under the impression (or maybe delusion) that I'd be able to make recordings that were as good as pre-recorded DVDs.

So my advice to anyone would be to save your money and stick to VCRs.

I'm on to my second DVD recorder, this one is a PHILLIPS and it's a brilliant recorder. It is easy to use and it doesn't break the bank at £159.99. I think it's a lot better than the £139.99 Goodmans recorder which I had but it broke.
