Hi there,

I wonder if someone could answer a question I have. I recently went to watch the new film release - Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, and noticed this near the start of the film:

As you can see, Arthur Dent, the main character in the film appears to work at the BBC and has a BBC staff card. My question is, does anyone know what his occupation is exactly. I don't recall any previous detail being given in either the book or TV series to his actual occupation.

So . . . any ideas?

Remember all versions be it the Radio series, TV series, books seem to differ widly from each other so I wouldn't worry about too much! Did he have a profession in other versions? I can't remember. Must try and get to see the film version. The Quandary phase starts on the radio tomorrow! Hitchhikers, Doctor Who, ooo it's the late seventies all over again !

More interestingly...his clock reads 7:42 Hmmm...

Arthur Dent reading Kurt Vonnegut? I can't see that somehow.

How did you manage to get that screengrab? It's too clear to have been done on a camcorder from your
cinema seat, and I'm sure it's highly unlikely you managed to hook the cinema's projector to your PC!

I'm not entirely sure that there's any pirated DVD's of it doing the rounds already either!

Anyone who has either read the book or listened to the episodes will find the film very underwhelming. Nevertheless, if you liked the book as much as I did, you'll regret not having seen it, despite its being disappointing.

I loved the film but what I didn't like was the way they made it into a love story to appela to the American audience! We're British!
