TV Forum - ARRGHH!

It's slow, badly designed, page-timeouts when posting (and you lose what you've written), the database is fucked, it is cumbersome and generally a bit of a pain in the arse to use.
I wish Asa would get a new host for it and re-design it, or perhaps more radically, hand the reigns over to someone else!
Perhaps the forum should change it's policy on letting members only view the forums. It's the bloody nosy trolls and guests that are sucking up all the bandwidth...
In total there are 81 users online: 5 Registered, 4 Hidden and 72 Guests
Most users ever online was 294 on 7 Feb 2005 3:35 pm

I think dedicated servers would be a costly option, but as I have said in the past, a no obligation paypal button could be placed on the front page.
There are enough members with a spot of disposable income who would make a donation from time to time.

Yes the problem is the traffic on there.
the ast time I used it I replied to 3 threads all said "oops sorry were busy at the moment try again later" so had to press the back button & try again, which I know is no hardship but shouldn't be happening on a forum.

The design as seen on the archive isn't great but it's better than what we've got. I believe Asa is changing TV Forum to the look of the Archive. Also, it does need to move to a better host (with decent dedicated servers). It can be costly but it's worth it.

Or make the forum smaller.
Scrap the media websites and requests forum, and stop guests from being able to view threads.

I've said it before, but I'm certain much of the slowness is down to the "fancy" additions.
This latest batch of very frequent "too busy" messages started on exactly the same day that revolving list of news topics was added at the top of the main forum list.
The forum processing power, how ever much or little there is, ought to be dedicated to the "core business", the readers and posters, and not the bells and whistles that just make it look different.

Well you know I'm not sure what that's meant to be for really -- is it meant to catch my eye and make me look at the news forum? Because I don't think I've once done that -- it just confuses me and makes me anxious.
Mind you, sometimes the active users list around 3 or 4am shows something like 104 guests -- which surely can't be right.

of course we wouldnt need that revolving little gimmick at all if certain members hadnt insisted on the creation of a seperate news forum.

You don't mean me do you? Or am I being thick.
My life has been void and empty since the late Wales thread ceased to be when the forum went all communist.
The main forum now seems only to be about CDUK, Eastenders and James Martin, oh look posting *again* about H&A everywhere.

The revolving news topic ticker was in the media forum before with the press site updates.

Something else that I find pretty annoying is that despite having a 17" sceen on a 1280x1024 resolution, the thread last posted in on the main forum is still halfway down my screen, right down after the scrolling thing, announcements and whatever other sticky topics there might be doing the rounds.
At least over here you can see the most recently posted-in thread straight away at the top of the list.
