This is something that has ereked me since my holiday to florida in 2000.
Why is their such a similarity between American and British branding of products? or on the oposite side of the spectrum, Same names Redically different Logo?

Well Walkers are owned by Lays; When Lays rebranded they took a sensible decision to keep regional names but introduce generic logos.
I think it works quite well, the Walkers logo appeared to have naturally evolved but when abroad you can easily recognise a product from the same [parent] company.

I thought Walkers were part of Pepsi
Safeway UK split from Safeway US in 1987 and then have changed their logo twice since (first of all the sall caps then more recently the lower case one). Obviously it'll slowly fade as Morrisons rape and pillage the brand into the ground.
More importantly, that avatar of yours is very disturbing and creepy, please change it or remove it.

AFAIK Walkers just own the UK distribution rights to Pepsi.

Pepsico own both Frito-Lay and Walkers Crisps.

The similar logo thing is to do with the fact that both brands are owned by the same company. It is done when the company wants the brand link to be obvious, but when it is advantageous to use a particular name in a certain country (usually because it was a well-known brand before it was bought out - like Walkers).
People will buy Walkers crisps at home, then go for the packet of Lay's when they're on holiday, because they recognise the logo.
Examples:
E.g. Lay's, Walkers, etc. - Pepsico crisps
e.g. Wall's (ice cream), Ola, etc. - Unilever ice cream ("Heartbrand") -

Are they the same company as BritVic?
Infact going back on what I said earlier and taking Mark's comments on board.
I think that Pepsico own Lays who in turn own Walkers. Britvic distribute just Pepsi in the UK, and have a deal which stops Pepsi from introducing their brand of water over here (Pepsi's Dasani-a-like).

Walkers and Walls both have a habit of customising names for local markets.

In some countries, the old Walls logo is still used in shops etc (well from what i've seen anyway!)
By the way, cdd, what does your signature say?
