I need amateur engineering advice

The little cute fan on my nVIDIA Geforce graphics card is making one hell of a noise, what can only be described as a screaming cat dying painfully, or trying to drive by leaving the handbrake on and pushing all the pedals at once whilst scratching your fingernails along the windscreen.

I've dusted it several hundred times, oiled it up a bit and shouted at it, but it's still being nasty.

My question is twofold - a) if I disable this fan, will my PC blow up? I mean - is a graphics card fan necessary (yes, I know they haven't put it there for a laugh, but you never know)

b) what shall I do?

Wires may melt onto the PCB and cause irrepairable damage
b) what shall I do?
Come get drunk with me.

Ooops, I should stick to the topic. I've got a few sundry graphic card spares kicking about. I'll see if there is a fan for a Gforce (whatever its called) and get back to you.

Having never replace a fan myself I dont know if this is easy to do or not; but there's only one way to find out....

Well looking at mine, it's got two little black plastic things that look as though they clip in and out. I'm not brave enough to force them out but I may resort to it if it keeps being an idiot. The way they've built the computer doesn't help - the card is at an odd angle so you can't quite get to the fan properly.
