The right to live

Something struck me earlier when watching the news earlier, am I the only one who sees it as slightly ironic that over in the USA, Senators and Congressmen have been debating in an all-night session which required the President to be woken up in the middle of the night to sign and ratify new legislation giving Terri Schiavo the right to live.
However, (and here's the "irony") over in that same nation, the Senate and Congress virtually seems to pass every single law that George Bush puts in front of them with hardly any debate on the subject of the Iraq war. Surely they are virtually sanctioning the inevitable deaths of many civilians AND their own troops?
I could be totally wrong, I've done no research into the subject, just based it on what I already know...
So, fellow Metropoleons (pron. similar to "Napoleon"), in this new era of encouraged posting, what do you think?
Is America f**cked up, or just, well - human?
