I have set up this thread as a tribute to DJ Tommy Vance who died today aged 63.I remember the radio adverts he did for carpet warehouses in which he shouted "OPEN BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY" in that wonderful gravevely tone of voice he had.

Tommy Vance was a consummate broadcaster - in his radio work, voiceover work, TV work for TOTP (my third fave presenter after Peel (RIP) and Janice Long) and VH1 - always distinctive, always impressive, a sad loss to broadcasting.

I very seldom watch any of the music channels, but I made an exception for his "Fly" programmes in the early days of analogue VH1.
