I've spent £900 in 20 days...on nothing!

I received my student loan on January 10th, and 20 days later, I've spent nearly all of it!

These are the main things I've spent my money on:

28" Widescreen Telly £200
Surround Sound System £150
Exotic Indoor Plant £45
Diesel £100
Groceries £130
Cigarettes £40
Going out £100
New Computer Monitor £100
New Mobile Phone £90

OK...I kinda guess where my money has gone now...hmmm!

How long is this £900 supposed to last you? A whole term?

I'm 2yrs off from paying my loan off after years of unjustified deferments.

And I am so old, I got a grant of around £3K a year.

Today's students get a bum deal. It's not right.

*Ahem* some of us like that sort of thing.

If you play your cards right, it'll lead to some kind of deposit, aye!

£1,250 a term - 4 times a year.

So every 3 months or so, I have a lump sum paid into my bank account automatically.

Remember though, I have to pay around £600 of that straight to my landlord, so I don't get very much to live on for 3 months!

I must admit James, you've at least got some significant hardware to show for your cheque.

I pissed nearly every penny of mine away within a month. All I had to show for it was a Sony Walkman, which I promptly lost.

I'm of the same vintage as jb, and we did indeed get large payouts in our day. I deferred payment for about a decade and now pay it off at a paltry £20 a month.
