Whistling CRT

My eMac's CRT monitor has been making a strange high pitched noise for a few weeks now - it comes on within the first few minuted of turning it on/coming out of sleep, and ends about 30-40 mins into the session. The sound is vaguely similar to the background noise generated by CRT TV, but much more obvious and louder - it's really annoying and I'm forced to put on loud music every time to stop it driving me out of my mind!
It changes pitch slightly if the resolution is changed.

My current resolution is 1152 x 864 - 80hz.

Could be a dry joint - I had an ancient CGA monitor years ago which did that for a while, the problem steadily got worse until one day the picture disappeared. A simple £15 repair fixed it.

On the other hand, it could be nothing - my own monitor squeals in the way you described if the resolution drops below 75Hz.

You have a "leaking capacitor" on your analog board or power board. The eMac is kinda famous for this. If your machine is still under warranty, take it in. This could turn in to an expensive repair if it is out of warranty.

I have exactly the same problem with my eMac - but its no longer under warranty! Any ideas how bad this problem could become? Is it just a noise, or is it part of a bigger underlying problem? No ideas as to where the best place to get it serviced would be...
