Fuel getting cheaper?

I don't know if it's just down here, but in the south west petrol has been getting cheaper and cheaper lately. In Plymouth, a litre of unleaded this time last month was averaging 81.9p - and that was cheap compared to the rest of the south west which was as high as 87.9 in places. ATM, I don't know of a single garage which isn't below 80p, and most are down to 76.9. And what's more, the only direction the prices seem to be going at present is down.

I remember this happening before a couple of years ago - fuel (at Plymouth prices) was averaging 80.9, and then seemingly overnight 5p disappeared from every forecourt, continuing to drop until it reached levels of around 71.9, before building back up again.

I wonder if this is the government's way of preventing another fuel strike?

Nope, Sainsbury's cut their prices by 3p due to oversupply. Morrisons et al were then forced to do likewise. It won't last so don't get used to it :)
