This blights my life - that burning feeling around my chest can hassle me for hours a day sometimes.

Rennies and Gaviscon only provide temporary relief - sometimes on a few minutes.

Has anyone got any suggestions about how I can rid myself of this evil?

Hmmm. I don't have much to suggest as a remedy for this, but I think it might be prudent to seek the underlying cause for the repeated symptoms. Does this happen often jb? When did you last see your doc?

God knows managing one aspect of a business is tough enough, but owning one must be very stressful, to say the least.

I suffered from heartburn like this for years, and eventually it got so bad that I couldn't even finish my meals. I saw my GP who sent me for tests and it turned out I have a hietus hernia (spelling?). Although this can't be cured as such, I was prescribed medication to combat the symptoms. One tablet a day - possibly for the rest of my life - but a small price to pay as I (virtually) never get heartburn now.

So take the plunge and see you GP. It may of course be nothing serious, but if it is a problem like mine, you know there is a solution.

Good Luck. :)

Omeprazole, Prilosec or Losec (different names for the same medication) are excellent for relieving heartburn in the long term. They're available over the counter in the US, but only on prescription in the UK. You can order them over the Web though.

I still have (unopened) packets of it from having a nasty dose of bad stomach which I suffered endlessly at the start of last year. I did the weeks course (so why I've got some left over I don't know), and it did the trick. It's pretty harsh stuff though - and strictly no alcohol.

You are very welcome to it jb, but you'd need to sign a disclaimer ;) .

Try pro-biotic yoghurt drinks... at least one every day.

I drink a few glasses of milk. It settles the acid in the stomache. It also helps cool your mouth when eating spicy food.

Or perhaps you should only eat meat that's before its use-by date?

From the look of Martin "DT" (what does that stand for, incidentally) Anderson's picture, he would know all about eating a lot of food....
